I started at the sound, my heart hammering against my sternum as I watched the window, waiting for the source to burst through the glass.
My ears perked, straining to hear the slightest sound.
Something skittered across the eave...
I gave a sigh of relief.

This is a fairly common occurance that's always blown out of proportion when I'm partially asleep seeing as I'm certain it's evil itself tapping on my window.

That happens all the time to me, only it's always like a pipe creaking or just something in my room fell over for no reason.
